Derek Shackelford's POWER PILL~

"The rain came down, the streams rose, and the wind blew against that house; yet it did not fall,
because it had its foundation on the rock."- Matthew 7:25

It can be safe to say that they do not make homes like they once did.  Previously many
developers meticulously took their time in establishing firm foundations.  Now developers and
home builders use the mass production building process.  They try to crank out as many
homes as possible so we (the consumers) can get in a brand new home as quickly as
possible.  While it is an exciting endeavor to be a homeowner and to have something one can
call their own.  We need to take a very close look at the foundation of the homes.  In other
words what is underneath that is the structure to hold the home up during the storm season...?

This is a metaphor for our own life.  What is our foundation...? Do we have a firm foundation
that is built on the principles of God or do we have a flimsy foundation built on cars, homes,
people, money...etc...?  If we do this foundation will quickly fall when the storms come and
when the rain falls because it is sandy foundation...Here are 3 points that will help us build
and maintain a solid foundation...

1. Don't be so consumed with outside appearances...The outside appearance can be
somewhat deceiving.  Many times we think that the outside affects the inside, this is hardly the
case.  It is the inside that affects the outside...Our inner structure has got to be solid in order to
effectively change the outside of our churches, communities, and world.  The power that
resonates on the inside should affect the outside...

2. We need a firm foundation...We need a foundation that is firm.  A foundation that is solid.  A
foundation in which allows us to not be moved when the storms of life are raging.  A firm
foundation is the Word of God...

3. We must practice what we know...In order for our foundation to have some stability, we must
practice what our foundation is standing on...When our foundation is the Word of God we can
practice what we know and learn...James would have it this way..."Be doers of the word and
not hearers only (James 1:22)."

So what is underneath you that is holding you up...?

"Something on the inside working on the outside...brings about a change in our life..."

@work

Ambition is key in any successful career
portfolio.  But, sometimes ambition can get the
best of us.  We are eager to step in and
volunteer or even to apply for a position or an
opportunity that we are not qualified for.  And
that only sets us up to fail.  Test the waters
before you jump.  Crawl, don't run.
Before prejudging, always make an effort to
be informed.

Work is often stressful and if you don't have
an outlet, you may take that stress right to
your doorstep.  That stress of the day gets
released into the one place you feel like you
can be yourself.  But before you blame your
family, listen to the situation and calmly come
to a resolution.  If you can do it at work, you
certainly can do it at home.
