Human Rights Awards

Frederick, Maryland – January 4, 2008:  The Human Relations Commission of Frederick County (HRC) asks the community to
nominate individuals, businesses and organizations whose efforts have promoted human relations. Those selected will be
recognized, along with a youth award recipient from each public high school and the Maryland School for the Deaf during the annual
dinner and
Human Rights Awards Program.  

This year’s program will be held on Monday, April 7, 2008 at Ceresville Mansion at 6:30 p.m., featuring keynote speaker Henry L.
Templeton, Director, Frederick County Human Relations Department.

The HRC awards include the Theodore W. Stephens Lifetime Achievement Award recognizing significant contributions of an
individual toward eliminating discriminatory practices in Frederick County over a substantial period of time, and promotion of cultural
awareness and inclusion of the disenfranchised and the poor in the life of the community.

The Lord D. Nickens Community Service Award is presented to an organization that has demonstrated a strong commitment and
record of achievement in promoting affirmative action, cultural diversity and inclusion within the community.

The Human Relations Award is given to a local business that has established policies and a record of achievement in promoting
inclusion and diversity in the economic and cultural life of Frederick County or promoting civic or humanitarian efforts.  Your
nomination may be submitted to

The deadline for these nominations is February 29, 2008.

Sponsorship Information

All businesses, organizations and individuals who are interested in promoting human rights in Frederick County are invited to
become sponsors of the awards banquet, and help to offset the dinner expenses for students and other award recipients.  
Sponsorships are available for $75 each, and will include one admission ticket. Additional tickets may be purchased for $30 each.  

Checks may be made payable to the Frederick County Board of Commissioners and sent to the
Frederick County Human Relations
